SUBSTANCE: invention provides novel proteins belonging to megacariocyte growth and development factors (MGDF, commonly defined as Mp1 ligands), whose activity leads finally to formation of platelets. Invention also provides methods for preparing MGDF derivatives and these derivatives themselves, in which MGDF molecules are linked to water-soluble polymers such as polyethylene glycol. MGDFs can also be obtained in the form of homogeneous preparations from natural sources. Invention offers procedures for preparing MGDFs from mammalians (including humans) involving recombinant genetic-engineering technology.
