Water degassing device has gas dispersing plate connected to liquid source and control plate with holes fitted over it so that it can be rotated to cover holes in dispersing plate to varying degrees. Liquid degassing device has a gas dispersing plate connected to a source of the liquid. A control plate is fitted over the dispersing plate and can be rotated with respect to it. The control plate has holes (18) which can be adjusted to cover the holes (17) in the dispersing plate to varying degrees when it is moved. The degree of degassing in the liquid leaving the device is measured and a signal sent to a drive device to adjust the relative orientation of the two plates as required.
