Octahydroisoquinoline derivs. of formula (I) are new: R = opt. branched 1-5C alkyl, 3-7C cycloalkyl, 4-6C cycloalkylalkyl, 3-5C alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or furan-2-yl alkyl; R1 and R2 = H, OH, 1-3C alkoxy or halogen; R3 = H, OH or 1-3C alkoxy; 'Het' = opt. substd. single or fused heterocyclic ring contg. 5-10 ring atoms and comprising up to 4 heteroatoms in the or each ring, selected from O, N and S; R4 and R5 = H, 1-3C alkyl, halogen, NO2, CF3, CN, 1-3C alkoxycarbonyl, NH2, 1-3C alkyl-carbonylamino, OH, 1-3C alkoxy or benzyl. Also new are the intermediates (+) and (-)-2-ethyl-4alpha-(3- methoxyphenyl)-1,2,3,4,4a) 5.6.7.8.8abeta-6-oxo- decahydroisoquinoline (IIa and IIb respectively). Specifically claimed are 41 cpds. (I) e.g. 2-ethyl-4a alpha-(3-hydroxyphenyl)- 1,2,3,4,4a,5,11,11abeta- octahydroindolo(2,3-g) isoquinoline (Ia). |
