In accordance with the present invention, there are provided methods for the separation of biological materials, based on the discovery that by including a small amount of organic agent to electrophoresis buffer, the rate of separation of biological materials is increased. Thus, according to the present invention, biological materials can be separated and analyzed by gel electrophoresis more rapidly than by prior methods.
