Electric arc furnace for the production of steel and method for operating it

An electric arc furnace for the production of steel by melting scrap between some electrodes, incorporating some gas injecto equipped with respective cooling enclosures, arranged in a wall of the furnace, is characterized in that at least one unique enclosure is associated with at least two injectors in order to assure their cooling, and in that each injector is oriented with angularity appropriate to the injection gas and its corresponding function. The method for putting this furnace into service is also claimed and is characterized in that the jet of gas is injected at supersonic rates with a flow rate of between 50 and 2500 Nm<3>/h and an injection speed of between 10 and 1000 m/s.
