PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer ribbon which donates different pieces of information per medium, with printed information which can be ignored visually and further is highly light-fast and less costly as well as an information recording medium using the ribbon. SOLUTION: A thermal transfer layer consisting of an infrared absorbing substance and a binder is formed on a support 2, and the infrared absorbing substance is silver-doped indium oxide powder. In addition, the binder is composed of a single or two kinds or more of polymer resin with 5% or less degree of break continuity and 50-105 deg.C glass transition temperature. The thermal transfer ribbon 1 of the described structure shows not only high transparency but also high light-fastness and further, is less costly than a thermal transfer ribbon using an organic coloring matter.
