PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save power consumption by controlling lighting devices in such a manner that when any operation of multiple operation members mounted on a sewing machine is not detected by a detecting means for a specified time, the lighting devices are put out, and when any operation of the operation members is detected during the light out period, the lighting devices are lighted up again. SOLUTION: While a sewing machine is operated, any key input of a key matrix 9, a touch panel switch 15, and other operation switches is detected. If any key input is not detected, a timer starts to operate, and after a specified time is elapsed, a sewing machine lamp 23, a backlight, and a display device 5 are put out, and a display data of the display device 5 is stored. This saves power consumption. Then, when any key input is detected, the sewing machine lamp 23 and the backlight are lighted up to its usual brightness, and the display device 5 is operated to return its original display data.
