PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save electric power further in intermittent drive reproduction of an optical disk device. SOLUTION: This optical disk device is provided with a system control part 112 which operates reproduction start control processing for newly reproducing a data from an optical disk 101 and storing it in a RAM 106 when the RAM 106 is decreased in the memory residual quantity less than a 1st threshold, a reproduction stop control processing for stopping a reproduction operation from the optical disk 101 and also controlling to stop operations of a spindle control circuit 111 and a rotary speed detecting circuit 113 when the memory residual quantity exceeds a 2nd threshold larger than the 1st threshold value, and a rotary speed detection start processing for controlling to restart the operation of the rotary speed detecting circuit 113 after a prescribed time from the time when the reproduction stop control processing was started. Thus, the device is reduced in the power consumption, and enabled to operate reproduction for a long time.
