AN APPARATUS FOR CUTTING PLANT STEMS

Apparatus (1) for cutting flower stems comprises a tank (2) for receiving water, a cutter (3) for cutting the stems below the waterline, an electric motor (4) for driving the cutter (3), an inlet chute (5) through which the stems are fed into the cutter (3), and a cover (6) through which the inlet chute (5) extends. The stems are cut underwater by rotating blades (13) of the cutter (3), as opposed to being cut in the presence of air, thus extending the shelf life of the flowers. Water can be drained through an outlet (11) and, by raising the cover (6), the interior of the tank (2) can be accessed for cleaning purposes.
