The system provides reliable testing of the strength of the joint, only destroying those which are not adequate. The system for measuring the clamping strength of a cabling fitting (11) on a cable (10) comprises a test plate (18) which at least one hole in which the cable (10) may be engaged. The cable extends perpendicularly through the hole, with the cabling fitt (11) to one side of the hole, resting against shoulders (20) forming a stop within the recess. The cable is pulled with a given traction force (F), and the shoulders are designed to collapse under a specified force. The success of the fitting in breaking through the collapsible shoulders provides an indication of a successful and strong joint for the cabling fitting.
