PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily retrieve a desired scene by controlling display so that a still picture is displayed in a position having a distance corresponding to a difference between time corresponding to a prescribed reference position on a picture and the time of the scene. SOLUTION: A position that a present position instruction gauge 172 shows corresponds to the time of a reproduced picture. In a still picture display window 171, the forms of holes simulating the film of a movie are displayed and the positions of the holes are moved from right to left by adjusting them to the position of a thumb nail picture. A user can visually grasp the lapse of reproduction time with the movement of the forms of holes simulating the film of the movie. Thus, the turn of the scene of a prescribed range can speedily be learnt with the thumb nail picture displayed on the still picture display window 171 and the desired scene can immediately be viewed.
