PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove moisture of a garbage in a dryer separated from a chopper and to sufficiently dry the garbage by providing a drum having an inner cavity formed in a polygonal shape at a peripheral wall, distributing dry heated air into the drum, and rotating it around a lateral axis. SOLUTION: A drum 9 blocks both ends of a hexagonal peripheral wall 40 with a sidewall to seal it, and forms a window-like opening 50 opened by an opening/closing cover 49 at right and left sides of one surface of the wall 10. A garbage is charged through an introducing plate 13 of a chopper 1, chopped, and dropped in the drum 9 of the dryer 2. When a predetermined amount of the garbage is stored in the drum 9 by repeating the operations, the chopper is stopped and raised up, the cover 49 is closed to block the opening 50, the drum 9 is rotated, and a heater, a dehumidifying and cooling mechanism are operated. The drum 9 is alternately rotated forward and reversely through a short break therebetween, and repeated for a predetermined time. The garbage is agitated, brought into contact with the air sufficiently by using blades 63, and dried by dry heated air. Thus, the garbage is chopped finely, and sufficiently dried in a short time.
