PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve thermal conductivity, strength and hardness by compacting and drying a body lay obtained by mixing fine metal chips and clay in a specified ratio, and then subjecting the dried compact to oxidative firing or reductive firing. SOLUTION: A fired material containing fine metal chips, which have irregular random faces and are fired from one another, and having color tone impressing profoundness and massive feeling is obtained by mixing 1 to 50 wt.%, preferably 1 to 30 wt.% fine metal chips, having irregular random faces, of at least one metal selected from stainless steel, iron, copper, brass, nickel, chromium and titanium and 99 to 50 wt.%, preferably 99 to 70 wt.% clay, then kneading the obtained mixture to form a body clay, compacting the body clay to a desired form, drying the compact and subjecting the compact to oxidative firing or reductive firing at 600 to 1,350 deg.C, preferably 1,200 to 1,300 deg.C. In this method, the body clay, in which the surface of each particle of the clay and the random surface of each fine metal chip is favorably bonded to each other, is obtained without absorbing water. The body clay is easily compacted and is hardly collapsed.
