PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high specific gravity conjugate fiber capable of being obtained in a good fiber manufacturing processability without the occurrence of voids around inorganic fine grains, having high specific gravity and strength, not causing fuzz on the surface of the fiber and also excellent in appearance quality. SOLUTION: In a sheath-and-core type conjugate fiber consisting of a core layer and a sheath one, the sheath layer comprises a polyester resin having a relative viscosity of >=1.4 and the core layer comprises a polyester resin containing an inorganic metal fine grains, and having the melting temperature of 180-240 deg.C and 15-80 deg.C lower than that of the polyester resin in the sheath layer. The conjugate fiber has a linear strength of >=3.5 cN/dtex and a specific gravity of >=1.5.
