PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial polyester fiber that has good spinnability, good antimicrobial properties and excellent color tone with reduced discoloration even after alkaline treatment. SOLUTION: The objective polyester fiber includes an antimicrobial agent mainly comprising silver or a silver compound and zinc or a zinc compound where the contents of the antimicrobial agent and zinc or a zinc compound satisfy the following requirements of (1) and (2): (1) the amount of silver in the antimicrobial agent is 0.002-2.0 wt.% based on the whole amount of the fiber; (2) the amount of zinc or in the zinc compound is >=0.5-fold at the weight ratio to the silver in the antimicrobial agent and is <=10.0 wt.% based on the whole fiber; and the coloration difference between before and after the alkali treatment (ΔE) is <=5.0.
