PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope with a higher operability by controlling the slackening of an angle wire. SOLUTION: An endoscope 1 includes a rotary encoder 10 to detect the displacement and the direction of the displacement of an angle wire 8, 9 and a tension sensor 13 to detect the tension of the angle wire 8, 9. In order to avoid a lowering in the operability to be caused by the slackening of the angle wire 8, 9, the angle wire 8, 9 are driven under the control with due consideration given to the displacement, the direction of the displacement and tension of the angle wire 8, 9 according to the displacement and the direction of the displacement of the angle wire 8, 9.
