A Gunn diode oscillator comprises a heat sink (40) formed into a diode package with a diode chip (15) and the oscillator body (10) is die cast of a zinc alloy with a cylindrical bore (40) with the dimensions of the heat sink and machined from a single piece of copper which is gold plated. The diode is thermally and electrically connected to the heat sink and a frequency timing probe is placed between a disc (19) and a surface (66) in a bore intersecting the longitudinal axis of a choke assembly (13), while a cylindrical short circuit (62) fits into a wave-guide (11).
