PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a buffer without reducing a buffer capacity by dividing a data buffer into a small capacity part for high frequency of use and a large capacity part for low frequency of use, and arranging the small capacity part on the same semiconductor chip as a buffer control part and a format control part. SOLUTION: A buffer control part 123 controls writing and reading of a data into/from an external buffer mernory (X-BUF) 114 and an internal buffer memory (I-BUF) 126, and the I-buffer 126 temporarily stores the data in a magnetic recording disk 102, and the X-BUF 114 is used for caching a data and substituting for the I-BUF 126. The I-BUF 126 operates input and output of a data in parallel, and the X-BUF 114 operates only either inputting or outputting a data. Moreover, The small capacity part is arranged on the same semiconductor chip as the buffer control part and the format control part, and the large capacity part uses general use memory chip outside thereof.
