Date Jun. 25, 1998By a novel process, trifluoroacetoacet-anilides of the formula in which R1 is as defined in the description, can be prepared by reacting trifluoroacetoacetyl chloride with anilines of the formula if appropriate in the presence of an acid binder and if appropriate in the presence of a diluent. The compounds of the formula (I) are suitable intermediates for preparing herbicidally active uracil derivatives.
