An air port damper system (10) for a recovery boiler employs plural louvers (22) for altering the exit angle of air through an air port. Dampers (60, 62, 64, 66) are provided to enable adjustment of the flow through the device. Suitably, the device may be retracted away from the air port, to enable manual or automatic cleaning of the port. Further the damper system can be removed for maintenance/service purposes, without requiring shutdown of the boiler.
