PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform precise optical connection between an optical fiber and an optical element, and to reduce the size and cost of the optical module easily, by providing an upper substrate with internal distributing wires to be connected to external electrodes and an optical element, and a lower substrate with an optical wave guide to be optically connected to the optical element to constitute an optical module. SOLUTION: An upper substrate 2 is mainly made from polyimide resin, and internal distributing wires for electrical connection with a lower substrate 3 are arranged to form a multilayer interconnection board. Similarly, gold-plated copper leads are also provided inside. Furthermore, for performing secure fixing work for an optical fiber 6 for electrical connection with optical elements 4, 5 and electrodes 13f, 13h put on the lower substrate 3, spaces 12a, 12b, 12c are formed in these parts beforehand in the upper substrate 2, and these spaces are fitted with resin after fixing work. Accordingly, fixing of the optical fiber being an optical wave guide and sealing of the optical elements can be realized easily. Formation of high-reliability optical modules whose optical fibers are extremely hard to break for example becomes feasible. |
