PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently make only a surface of a molded product hydrophilic without greatly varying water absorption by treating a plastic molded product with an oxygen atom-containing gas in the presence of a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: A surface of a plastic molded product is improved by treating the plastic molded product with an oxygen atom-containing gas (preferably at least one kind selected from oxygen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide) in the presence of an imide compound of the formula (R1 and R2 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl, a cycloalkyl, a hydroxyl, an alkoxy, a carboxyl or the like; X is an O atom or a hydroxyl). Preferably, the plastic molded product is a hydrocarbon-based polymer, etc., having a main chain of a saturated hydrocarbon polymer, and the polymer is preferably has a secondary or a tertiary carbon atom, especially a tertiary carbon atom. By the process, a tackiness, an adhesiveness, etc., to a coating film can be applied to the surface of the molded product.
