PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitation blade which indicates an abrasion in the area of a blade tip part no exceeding 3%, which is a level to affect agitation force, even when used in molten metal for at lest one year and substantially no weight loss under high-temperature, lean-oxygen conditions and an agitator having the agitation blades fitted to it. SOLUTION: The agitation blade 12 is composed of a composite material composed of carbon, silicon carbide, and a metal carbide, or carbon and silicon carbide, or a composite material having an oxidation resistant membrane, which is obtained by impregnating carbon fibers and non-fibrous carbon about 2 g/cc in density, the abrasion of which is substantially zero at room temperature and at high temperatures and the weight loss of which does not exceeds 5% at least in lean-oxygen conditions, preferably in the air, even in an environment to be exposed to high temperatures exceeding 1,000 deg.C for a long period with metallic silicon. The blade 21 is fitted to an agitator.
