PURPOSE: A print state control method of a printer is provided to set the type of a printing paper in a computer and implement an efficient printing operation under different printing conditions based on the types of printing papers set in a computer. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a printing paper type setting function of a computer using an input unit(S1). The CPU is changed to a printing paper type setting mode(S2). When the user sets the printing paper type(S3), the CPU checks whether the printing paper type is set(S4) The set printing paper type information is transferred to the printer(S5). The firmware of the printer updates the printing state information based on the printing paper type information set in the computer(S6). If the user sets a thin paper, the firmware sets the engaging temperature lower than the reference temperature and decrease the amount of toner compared to the reference amount. When the printing function is selected by the user(S7), the CPU transfers the image data to the printer(S8). The firmware of the printer drives the printer engine based on the updated printing stare information and prints the image data transferred form the computer(S9). When the printing is ended(S10), the routine is returned to S1 and waits the next printing type function.
