PURPOSE: A circuit and method for initializing column select line is provided to prevent the improper operation of a memory chip by holding a column select line CSL to be early activated under the influence of a noise. CONSTITUTION: A master signal generating unit(501) generates a master signal restraining the drive of a column select line when the power is turn-on. A column select signal generating unit makes an output signal of its column select line to be inactivated at initial time, in response to the master signal from the master signal generating unit(501). The master signal generating unit(501) includes a first pull-up transistor, a logic, and a latch. The first pull-up transistor is gated by a power-up-related signal at initial time, wherein the source thereof is connected to a power source. The logic receives a signal from the drain of the transistor and the power-up-related signal. The latch latches a logic state of the drain of the transistor.
