PURPOSE: A cathode for a cathode ray tube is provided to be capable of preventing a flaking appearance of an electron radiating material at high temperature and of preventing the cathode from being reacted with gas in air. CONSTITUTION: A cathode for a cathode ray tube a gas metal(1) which is formed on a cylindrical sleeve(2) in which a cathode heater(4) is installed and consists of Ni. A first electron radiation material layer(5) is formed on the gas metal(1) and consists of metal oxide such as BaO, SrO, and CaO. A second electron radiation material layer(6) is formed on the first electron radiation material layer(5), and comprises at least barium, and the density of the first electron radiation material layer(5) is three times that of the second electron radiation material layer(6).
