PURPOSE: A hall sensor trouble detecting method is provided to detect a hall sensor trouble by comparing output of a crankshaft position sensor with output of a hall sensor, and to perform engine control program conveniently and fully without level decision program. CONSTITUTION: The pulse is output from a crankshaft position sensor(2), and the number of the pulse is counted. The count is reset in raising an edge of a signal input from a hall sensor(4), and the count value is detected periodically. The trouble of the hall sensor is detected in case of the detected count value to be over the reference value and the number of the excess count value to be more than the established time. The reference value is more than the number of the pulse from the crankshaft position sensor at one revolution of the engine, and less than the maximum count value. The other engine control program is performed for full time owing to not using level decision program. The hall sensor trouble detecting method of a vehicle helps to perform the engine control program conveniently.
