FLUORINATED COPOLYMERS FOR COATING BIOMEDICAL DEVICES AND A PROCESS FOR THEIR MANUFACTURE

Copolymers comprising moieties derived from at least one first fluorinated comonomer having formula (I), wherein X is hydrogen or methyl, Y is a single bond or a radical of the formula CH2NRSO2 or NRSO2, R being a C1-6 alkyl group, Z is hydrogen or fluorine, and n is 0 to 12 and moieties derived from at least one second non-fluorinated comonomer, the glass transition temperature of the homopolymer of said second comonomer being lower than the glass transition temperature of the homopolymer of said first comonomer, are described. A layer of such a copolymer, optionally further comprising a biologically effective amount of at least one biologically active ingredient , is useful for coating a biomedical device such as a catheter or a stent.
