A method for the production of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropene, and particularl y to a method characterized by high conversion, yield and selectivity by contacting 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropane with hydrogen in the presence of a metal-containing catalyst. The 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropene th en can be reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a metal-containing catalyst to produce 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane.
