PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and correctly position a weld part of a steel belt at a given grinding position, and always and surely grind the weld part. SOLUTION: When a weld part 1A of a steel belt 1 transferred by a transferring means is ground by a grinding means 5, the image of the steel belt 1 in an area including a grinding position by the grinding means 5 is picked up by an image pick-up means 15. Then, transfer of the steel belt 1 due to the transferring means is controlled in a manner to position the weld part 1A at the grinding position based on the picked-up image output, and a grinding action of the weld part 1A due to the grinding means 5 is also controlled.
