PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the distribution of the mixture of defective articles and conforming articles in the market by closing a selection gate when a conforming article signal or a defective article signal is not inputted. SOLUTION: An average cycle calculation circuit 8 outputs an average cycle time TS by measuring the cycle time of a work detection signal SW from a detector 1 with regard to a prescribed number of articles to a gate opening time length calculation circuit 9. The circuit 9 inputs an externally set gate operation time magnification factor to an input terminal 10, multiplies the value by the average cycle time TS, and outputs a gate opening time length signal SL to a gate control circuit 4. The circuit 4 is started up by a judgement signal SJ from an acceptance/rejection judgement circuit 3 and outputs a gate control signal SG which is started down by the gate time length signal SL from the circuit 9 to control the rotation of a selection gate or a selection arm for a selector 12. In this way, during the introduction of a work in which the possibility of a defective article not followed by a selection control signal caused by the failure of an apparatus, and the like, exists, discharge is done to a defective article side to prevent a defective article to be mixed to a conforming article side.
