PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the enlargement of a building without requiring residents to move out by newly providing roof members above the existing building, and then removing the roof members of the existing building. SOLUTION: When a third floor portion 9 is to be extended on an existing two-story building, an inverted L-shaped new foundation coinciding with an existing foundation is provided on the outside of the existing foundation. Steel frame columns 6 and steel frame beams 14 are stacked in turn to form a third floor portion 9 on the new foundation. New roof members are constructed on the steel frame beams 14, and tile members such as colored bestos 10 are fitted on the roof members. Existing roof members 3 are removed, steel frame beams and floor members of the floor section of the third floor portion 9 are fitted, and wall members are fitted to the outside of the steel frame columns 6. A new space section can be extended upward in the vertical direction while residents still live inside.
