METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING THICKNESS OF COATING FILM ON STRIP MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the setting time of a roll coater condition and to accurately control the thickness of the coating film on a steel strip. SOLUTION: A control device sets a plurality of roll coater conditions corresponding to a coating condition when the coating condition including the kind of coating material, the thickness of a coating film and the running speed of a steel strip is altered to perform coating (a1-a4) and resets a plurality of roll coater conditions so that the thickness of an undried coating film becomes a desired value to perform coating up to a final coil (a6-a8). Each roll coater condition and the actual result value of the running speed of the steel strip in an operation state wherein the fluctuations of each roll coater condition and the running speed of the steel strip are within predetermined ranges are calculated at every coil (a9-a11) and the correction value of each roll coater condition in a coil same in its coating condition of a next time is calculated to be substituted with the correction value up to now (a12).
