PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-absorbing porous body containing an absorbing resin keeping proper air and having sufficient high water-absorbing property and water holding capacity and free from falling off of the resin by including a highly water-absorbing resin containing polyacidic amino acids or polyacidic amino acid crosslinked substance. SOLUTION: This water-absorbing porous body comprises a porous body (e.g. urethane resin foam or phenol resin foam) containing a highly water- absorbing resin comprising polyacidic amino acids (e.g. polyasparatic acid or polyasparatic acid salt) or a polyacidic amino acid crosslinked substance (e.g. a crosslinked substance of a polyasparatic acid salt and/or a polyasparatic acid salt, a crosslinked substance of a polyasparatic acid salt with a protein or a crosslinked substance of a polyasparatic acid salt with polysaccharide). The weight average molecular weight of the above polyacidic aminoacids is preferably >=3,000 and the highly water-absorbing resin containing the polyacidic amino acid crosslinked substance includes a highly water-absorbing resin containing a polyacidic amino acid crosslinked substance capable of absorbing water 10-1,000 or more times as much weight of water as own weight.
