PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fabric useful for sportswear, etc., having a soft touch feeling, high air permeability, high hygroscopicity and refreshing properties and excellent in ultraviolet screening properties. SOLUTION: This ultraviolet screening fabric is a fabric comprising synthetic fibers mixed with artificial cellulosic fibers and at least either one of the synthetic fibers and the artificial cellulosic fibers contains inorganic oxide microparticles. The fabric has >=0.3 and <=7% opening ratio thereof and <=20 value of SPF represented by the formula [λdenotes the wavelength of ultraviolet rays; Eλdenotes a value of the reference erythematous effect; Sλdenotes a value of the reference solar radiation illuminance; Tλdenotes the ultraviolet transmittance (%) of the fabric;Δλdenotes the measured wavelength interval = 2 nm].
