PRESS DIE FOR FORMING OPTICAL ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the pressure in a glass substrate uniform and improve formability of the glass substrate and transferability of the form of a die. SOLUTION: The press die is used for forming an optical element such as V-groove base plate for arranging optical fibers. Glass 15 to be formed having a coefficient of thermal expansion lower than that of the material of the die is used. Projections 14 are provided at both sides of each forming part on the press surface 11 of the die so that each projection 14 is stuck into the glass 15 to be formed at the time of forming, thereby flowing out of the glass 15 to be formed to outside is inhibited.
