The method is for handling a hardening process and involves a highway travel surface of very open asphalt concrete containing a percentage of open spaces, with a weakener sprayed over the uppermost granules to remove their adhesive casing. The weakener used is a water jet and/or steam. Also the weakener may be a fluid with a relatively high viscosity. It may also be applied using a drum with an absorbent surface, the drum being rolled over the road surface. To carry out the process, a lorry (1) is used, provided with a storage tank (2) for the weakener with a preferred capacity of 200 liters. On the rear side of the lorry is a pivot arm (3) which ca be positioned in an inactive travel location. On the outer end of the arm is a spray device (4) with one or more adjacent mouthpieces. The spray device is supported on two pivot wheels (5).
