The invention relates to a pedal assembly consisting of a special pedal axle system for bicycles that makes it possible to render the connecting rods independent from one another and synchronizes them at a transmission ratio which is changed in a sinusoidal manner so that eccentric or off-centered plates are required in order to obtain traction of a wheel by means of a chain. According to the invention, the system comprises two independent semi-axles forming the axle of the pedals, a secondary axle, four elliptical gears and an underframe coupled to or built into the frame of the bicycle. The novel pedal assembly operates combined with the traction system by means of independent synchronized pedals and can be used with two chains and eccentric plate sets or a single chain and a set of eccentric plates in conjunction with one of the connecting rods.
