Hydrofoils are formed by wing-shaped profiles with a flat top side and are joined by a watertight double floor with a width chosen to give the boat a maximum roll angle of 15 deg. Shock absorbing, collapsible supports are also provided. For a large water contact surface area the front end of the hydrofoil is rotated upwards, the hydrofoil channel is closed at the rear end and the hydrofoil cavity is filled by a swimming bladder to increase the reserve displacement and lift the front stem out of the water. For a small water contact surface area the front end of the hydrofoil is rotated downwards, the channel is opened at the rear end, and the swimming bladder is compressed to reduce the reserve displacement. Opening the channel causes the negative stems to become activated. The swimming bladder is protected by a guide plate on its top side. The rear rudder acts as a stabiliser. |
