METHOD FOR PURGING RESIDUAL GAS FROM FUEL CELL POWER GENERATING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purging residual gas from a fuel cell power generating system while eliminating the need to incorporate a gas cylinder for purge gas so as to facilitate control. SOLUTION: In a fuel cell power generating system provided with a reformer 1 for reforming fuel gas into hydrogen-rich reformed gas and a fuel cell 2 in which the reformed gas is electrochemically reacted with air to generate power, purge gas is charged into the fuel cell generating system to purge the reformed gas remaining in the system. In this case, a gas generated through the reaction of air with combustible gas for oxygen consumption and composed chiefly of nitrogen and carbon dioxide is used as the purge gas. The purge gas can be used by generating it through an oxidation reaction between air and the combustible gas as necessary.
