Process for the direct oxidation of hydrocarbons to the corresponding carboxylic acids, alcohols or ketones by oxygen in the presence of soluble manganese and chromium catalysts

The process gives improved selectivities in carboxylic acids by oxidation of hydrocarbons using a combination of two soluble catalysts. A process for the oxidation of hydrocarbons, alcohols and/or ketones using oxygen(or an oxygen-containing gas) in the liquid phase, is claimed. The solvent is a polar protic or aprotic compound and the catalyst is a mixture of soluble compounds of manganese and chromium.
