COMB FILTER USING SIDE GROUND OPTICAL FIBER AND CHANNEL TYPE UPPER WAVEGUIDE

PURPOSE: A comb filter is provided to enable simple fabrication process and inexpensive cost by using a side ground optical fiber and a channel-type upper waveguide. CONSTITUTION: A silicon substrate for semiconductor is provided with V shaped groove to which an optical fiber is adhered to be secured. After the optical fiber is completely adhered, a cladding layer(3) of the optical fiber is ground by using grounding powder so that a core layer(2) is not exposed in the air. The ground part is provided with an electrode(8) to vary refractivity of the upper cladding layer, and deposited with a SiO2 layer to form a channel shaped waveguide. The channel shaped waveguide is formed via photo etching. The prepared channel is coated with a material with an electric photo coefficient or a thermal photo coefficient which has a refractivity higher than that of the core layer(2) of the optical fiber, and provided in the upper part with a cladding layer(6) to complete a device.
