PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sorting box from being overfilled to thereby enhance the treating efficeincy when the written information of mail is read and the mail is sorted according to the information and allotted among sorting boxes by estimating a sorting box to which mail is concentrated allotted, and allotting the mail allotted to the sorting box to a plurality of sorting boxes. SOLUTION: Mail is supplied to a supply section 1, and is taken out one by one through a take-out section 2, and only normal mail is conveyed to a bar code reading section 4. In accordance with the sorting places stored in a data base and corresponding to the bar code, the mail is diverged at a step pass section 5 and is allotted to an objective sorting box 6. Then, the mail is taken one of the sorting box 6 and again conveyed to the supply section 1, and the operation is again started. When there is an excess in the number of sorting ports of the second time, other sorting ports are allotted to the sorting ports, successively from one having a higher number of pieces of mail alotted, thus averaging the accumulated number per sorting port. Thus, the sorting box 6 is prevented from being overfilled, and the treating efficiency is enhanced. |
