PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet processing device which is capable of upgrading the processing efficiency without raising the conveying speed of sheets. SOLUTION: This sheet processing device comprises a buffer part 14 arranged vis-a-vis a thickness selecting part 12. The buffer part 14 has an accumulation part 12a which receives and accumulates postal matters to be supplied from the thickness selecting part 12 and a conveying belt 52 which delivers the postal matters from the accumulation part 12a. The postal matters delivered by the conveying belt 52 are set in a standing position by a V chute 56 to be sent to a width selecting part by a bottom face roller 58. When excess postal matters are detected beyond the specified supply level by a supply detecting part provided between the buffer part 14 and the width selecting part 12, the conveying belt 52 of the buffer part 14 is suspended to retain the postal matters in the accumulation 12a and at the same time, the drive speed of the bottom face roller 58 is reduced.
