PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new protein comprising a protein having a specific amino acid sequence and biological activity of cat interferon β, useful as an antiviral agent for virus disease of cat, an antitumor agent for cat tumor, etc. SOLUTION: This new protein comprises an amino acid sequence of the formula or an amino acid sequence in which one or several amino acids are deleted, substituted or added in the amino acid sequence of the formula, has biological activity of cat interferon β and is useful as an antiviral agent for various virus diseases of cat in which no effective therapeutic agent is known except vaccine, an antitumor agent for various tumors of cat, etc. The protein is obtained by carrying out PCR using a gene arrangement in the vicinity of 3' end of interferon of another mammal as a primer with a cat splenic DNA as a template, incorporating the obtained gene into a vector to prepare a recombinant vector, transducing the vector into Escherichia coli, etc., and expressing the gene. |
