PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main rope elongation amount detecting device for elevator capable of easily measuring elongation amount of a main rope without requiring a special detecting body. SOLUTION: In a state that a car 1 is moved to a top floor, a maintenance person 13 sets a scale at a marking 12 provided at a prescribed position of a wall of a lowest floor 4 and judges whether elongation of a main rope 3 is within a normal range or not by depending on whether or not an indication body 11 can be seen through a lowermost end of a balance weight 2 located within a pit 5 from this prescribed height position.
