PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate abnormal and unstable operations in a drive part of an electric stapler by transmitting a vertical drive force converting the drive force of a motor by a lever via a spring and raising/lowering a hammer between a paper binding position and a standby position. SOLUTION: When binding paper sheets are pushed into a switch lever 19 with their contacted therewith, a motor is rotated so that a rod 6 is driven by a boss 4 in a drive gear 3 in the last stage, a shaft 9 provided in the other end of the rod part 6 pushes a compression spring 11 with a fulcrum 8 set to the axis, and a hammer 10 is lowered. Therefore, a staple stored between a staple case outer frame 14 and a staple case 13 is pushed down by a staple presser spring 12 so that the staple penetrates through the binding paper sheets and bent against the staple bending part of a clamp. After that, the shaft 9 is raised by the rotation of the drive gear 3 to raise the hammer 10 and a micro-switch 28 is turned off to stop the rotation of the motor. The staple case 13 is returned to its original position by a spring 17.
