PURPOSE:To firmly support the reaction at excavation in a self traveling type tunnel excavator. CONSTITUTION:A gripper device has a gripper face member 73 pressed in face contact with an excavating ground 11 and a spike member 74 bitten into the excavating ground. The spike member 73 is protruded on the outer surface of a pressing plate 74 capable of approaching to and separating from the inner surface of the gripper face member 73 by the operation of a jack 76, and inserted through a guide hole 72 provided through the gripper face member 73 to protrude and recess the top end part from the guide hole 72. After the top end part of the spike member 74 is protruded from the guide hole 72 by advancing the pressing plate 75, the pressing plate 75 is brought into contact with the gripper face member 73 to integrally move the both, a reaction is imparted to the excavating ground through the gripper device to excavate the ground. On the other hand, the pressing plate 75 is retreated after the excavation is finished, whereby the sand and earth adhered to the top end part of the spike member 74 is wiped off by the opening end of the guide hole 72. |
