PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic elevator having few service stops such as suspension and excellent in comfortableness by quickly detecting an abnormal operation of a balance weight caused by car vibration. SOLUTION: A balance weight 203 is mounted on a hydraulic jack 113 elevating, lowering and moving a car 106 via a rope 206, a vibration detection means 211 is provided on a rope end fixing beam 221 of the balance weight 206 to be a mechanical system to which the balance weight 206 belongs. When the vibration detection means 211 detects an abnormal behavior of the balance weight 206, a safety measure operation is performed.
