PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable footboard device that makes it relatively easy for an operator to arrange an even heavy footboard between a tail end of bottom port of a cargo box and a ground surface while maintaining simple structure. SOLUTION: In a freight car 1 mounting cargo boxes 3 for loading materials on a car body frame 2, a footboard 6 is arranged on the car body frame 2 below a bottom of the cargo box 3 in such a condition tat it can be freely drawn out backward, and a guide arm 7 equipped with support members 75, 76 to support the footboard 6 from a bottom when the footboard 6 is drawn out rearward is arranged on the car body frame 2 in such a condition that it can be freely drawn out backward and can be lifted, lowered and tilted. A jack device 92 is connected to the guide arm 7 through a linkage 93 and the guide arm 7 is constructed in tiltable by expansion and contraction operation of the jack device 92.
